The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has indeed been instrumental in producing entrepreneurs of international repute since its inception.

This was the submission of NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, while addressing newly deployed 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) corps members during the flag-off ceremony of SAED activities for the orientation course.

According to her, the Scheme has achieved this through its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which aims to equip corps members with necessary skills for entrepreneurship.

The SAED programme has trained over 500,000 corps members since its inception, with 1,600 of them becoming full-time entrepreneurs. This is a testament to the program’s effectiveness in fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance among young Nigerians.

The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps in Ondo State has admonished corps members to strive and achieve greatness by embracing the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the Scheme, as the world awaits their shine.

“Gentlemen corps members, you need to appreciate the management of the National Youth Service Corps for establishing the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development SAED programme about thirteen (13) years ago to stem the tide of unemployment in the land.

“Since inception, several millions of Nigerians who have passed through the Scheme are now captains of industries and entrepreneurs of international repute,” she disclosed.

The NYSC Ondo boss charged the members of the service corps to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Scheme through the Trainers and Facilitators who are thoroughbred professionals while impacting them with the required skills that will put them on the economic world map.

She appealed to them to take seriously the in-camp training as this will provide them with basics of learning the skills they have passion for, and equally perfect such, during the post-camp training which they would be exposed to in the course of the service year.

While welcoming the future corpreneurs, the Assistant Director/Head, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, Pastor (Mrs.) Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu admonished corps members not to exhibit complacency in the course of the programme.

Pastor Dawodu appreciated the Camp management, especially the State Coordinator, for providing the avenue for the SAED programme to thrive in Ondo State as well as Trainers/Facilitators who have agreed to invest massively in the patriotic graduate youths.

She outlined what the corps members stand to benefit from the programme such as grants, loans, and information gathering on funding opportunities as well as gaining technical assistance in job search.

The Trainers/Facilitators thereafter introduced their skills, which included Agro-Allied, ICT, Creative Industry, Culinary and Catering Services, and Construction.

Others are Green energy and Satellite Security Technology, Cleaning Services and Hygiene, Cosmetology, Education, Automobile and Delivery and Logistics.
