Kwara gov approves recruitment of 1,800 teachers

January 18, 2025

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the recruitment of 1,800 teachers, 100 non-teaching staff, and 200 security personnel as part of efforts to bolster the state’s education sector and create a safer school environment.

The Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Malam Bello Abubakar, announced the development in a statement on Friday in Ilorin, highlighting the initiative’s focus on addressing staffing gaps in rural schools.

According to Abubakar, the application process will soon be launched online. Eligible candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent qualifications, including B.Ed., B.Sc. (Ed.), B.A. (Ed.), or a university degree with a teaching certificate such as a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or National Certificate in Education (NCE).

“Applicants without the specified qualifications will not be invited for the recruitment test,” he stated.

The recruitment aims to prioritize the hiring of teachers for senior secondary schools in rural areas, particularly for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects.

However, candidates specializing in Arts and Commercial subjects will also be considered, with required areas to be detailed on the application portal.

Abubakar emphasized that applicants must not exceed 35 years of age by the end of January and will undergo mandatory drug testing to ensure alignment with the government’s anti-drug abuse policies.

“Applicants exhibiting behavior unfit for a teacher and role model will be disqualified at any stage of the process,” he warned.

This strategic recruitment drive underscores the Kwara State Government’s commitment to strengthening education infrastructure and safeguarding the well-being of students across the state.
