The Federal Government has earmarked N5.7 billion for capital projects at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Funtua, Katsina State.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Tartiary Institutions and TETFund, Sen. Muntari Dandutse, made the disclosure to newsmen on Saturday in Katsina.
“We are grateful to Allah that N5.7 billion was appropriated for capital projects in 2025 for the university, TETFund takeoff grant is N5 billion and the normal intervention is N2.9 billion,” he said.
Dandutse, who is also the Senator representing Katsina South, said that the Federal Government had already appointed the Vice-Chancellor and the Governing Council of the institution.
He said that the university’s management was working efforts to employ other supporting staff of the institutions.
According to him, the university is expected to start operations by September, 2025.
He stated that the university would serve as a catalyst for educational development in the North-West, and would admit students from states across the zone and other neighbouring states.
The senator also pointed out that the Katsina State Government was spending about N3 billion to ensure that the university begins operations at the stipulated period.
Dandutse also said that the government planned to establish JAMB CBT centres in all the remaining eight local governments under the constituency.
He also revealed that the Federal Government would establish independent solar power projects in all the public universities across the country.
The senator added that this would assist to ensure constant electricity supply in those institutions to enhance teaching and learning.
