FCET Akoka Secondary School rewards Valedictorian

The Principal, Federal College of Education (Technical) Secondary School, Akoka, Lagos, Mrs. Khadijat Abdulsalam has advised the graduating students of the college to be focused and avoid cutting corners as they progress in their life journey.

Abdulsalam, who spoke at the 12th valedictory and graduation ceremony of the school also enjoined the graduands to be truthful in all their dealings. She said: “Don’t give in to the temptation of cutting comers; don’t be a photocopy of others, be yourself. As you sojourn into the new world starting from your university education and other vocations, remember the child of whom you are and bear in mind the tutelage of your teachers.

“Remember that most great men discovered themselves at a very tender age; as every great achievement starts with a dream. As you bid FCET secondary school farewell, break out for a gallant achievement. This is the crux of discourse for today, break out and break forth,” she added.

In his remarks, the Provost, Dr. Wahab Azeez, commended the management, staff and parents for their commitment and perseverance that has culminated in the graduation of yet another set of graduands.

Represented by his deputy, Dr. Abiodun Lamidi, he urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the college and brace up to give back to the school like their predecessors.

The guest lecturers at the event, Dr. Fatai Olajobi, trainer and management consultant, and Amarachi Kalu, an alumna and Mass Communication student at Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, encouraged the graduating students to strive hard to achieve excellence.

They urged them to be dedicated and be guided by the lessons learnt in school, saying what they would be exposed to in the larger society are enormous opportunities and challenges.

“Don’t look down on yourself, know who you are so that you don’t get cut off or distracted. Be deliberate to make a difference. Break out and break forth,” Kalu added.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the dollar rain on the valedictorian, Goodnews Moyofoluwa Dosumu, by an alumna of the college now an Assistant lecturer in a university in the United States, her sister and their father as a reward for her excellent performance.

Dosumu, who aspires to study Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), expressed appreciation to the management and her teachers for their guidance.
