Seek new knowledge, CMUL tells inductees

The Provost of College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Prof. David Oke, has admonished the graduates of medical and dental students of the institute to seek new knowledge.

While speaking at the 2019/2020 medical and dental induction ceremony, in Lagos, on Wednesday, Oke also encouraged the inductees to actively undergo interdisciplinary collaboration to enrich their medical journey, saying that it would aid them to become distinguished professional practitioners.

He said, “It is a well-established fact that the Nigerian terrain is difficult; however, I am confident that with the quality training you have received, you will rise above all the difficult terrain you will encounter and make positive impact in the Health Sector where you choose to settle.”

“I enjoin you to explore new frontiers of knowledge and become distinguished professional practitioners.”

The college inducted 134 Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and 26 Bachelor of Dental Surgery students into the medical profession.

The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, cautioned the inductees against divulging information on social media platforms.

“Confidentiality of profession is very important and if you are so engrossed in social media, you will not know when you release certain information about your patients.

“When your patient comes to you, you owe that patient the duty of good care, including the confidentiality of what you have heard and what you have seen about that patient. Your conduct is very important.”

He asseverated that the induction ceremony was a call to service and it was a service to humanity.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Chief Executive Officer of Clina Lancet Laboratories Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Dawodu, said “Never get tired of the quest for knowledge and self-improvement. Be deliberate, create a schedule, and invest in yourself.”
